Ah Yes.. my bet is on the pre-production cars. I am not very into the production of the 959, so this question was buzzing me quite often.

I hadn't noticed that before. As far as I know production ran from 1986 to 1989 during which 337 959's were produced. The following variants were made:

prototype cars
Vorseries or pre-production cars
Comfort models
ROW sport models
some additional cars built out of spare parts

Maybe these had the differences you are speaking about.....

The best car of it's time! But there is something that's confusing me about it.. I mean - I've seen 959's with diffrent front bumpers in which, one has vertical beams mounted ahead of the black grill and another car with the same vertical beams mounted behind the black grill. Also I've seen 959's with a black spoiler lip under the wing and ones without it. Do you have any idea were there two diffrent variant of the 959 (early and later version), or were these diffrences an option when buying a car?
